Trinity Tidbit
Clergy can be called by many names: Priest, Minister, Pastor, Vicar, Shepherd, Father, Reverend, and Preacher to name a few. The Reverend Albert Holloway, who was Trinity’s Rector from 1947 through 1961, could be called all of these things. He was a wonderful, sweet, loving man who deeply cared about the people of Trinity. By his own admission, he wasn’t known to give the best sermons, but if there was any trouble or crisis in your life, he was there with you through it all. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone.
During Mr. Holloway’s tenure at Trinity, Sunday School (SS) was held between the 8 AM and 11 AM services in the Parish House. Parents would drop their children off, sit in their cars waiting for SS to end, pick up their kids, and go home. Mr. Holloway instituted the 9:15 AM service so parents would have someplace to be while the kids were in SS. He also caused a minor scandal when he put candles on the altar, a memorial from a parishioner.
Mrs. Holloway sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Yours truly was one of her kindergarten students. Their daughter, Ginny, was a part of Trinity’s youth activities. When Rev. Holloway left Trinity, he moved on to a church in Camden and finally to one in Connecticut.
